4 out of 5 stars Primitive   August 14, 2002

It's not a bad course. It contains some good vocabulary but their idea of making the process of learning Norwegian funny and entertaining failed. The practice exercises are primitive and boring. In addition, some material is superflous and unnecessary. As for the good sides, it's is user-friendly and different topics are well-organized.

4 out of 5 stars A surprise sucess   June 22, 2002

At first you'll think that you've wasted your money: the graphics are frankly terrible, and the 'fun games' seem tedious. But then remember what it's like sitting down trying to memorise a string of words, and you'll realise that this system is pure genius. The games *are* boring, but they're not *that* boring!
I even found myself getting slightly addicted, and the longer I used the CD-ROM, the more appealing the little man in the bow-tie with the extending arms became. The programmers have obviously hit on the right formula, because this odd method actually makes you remember the vocab.
The one flaw of this method is that it completely excludes grammer: however, I would suggest that learning the basic vocabularly will provide you with the building blocks that will help you if you want to progress using a different program.

4 out of 5 stars Addictive, easy and fun!   March 27, 2001

I was surprised to see a series teaching so many languages 'from Arabic to Zulu' I am learning Russian and it's a nightmare trying to find materials in the UK. The course centres around excercises and practice, if your system has a microphone, you can record your voice and compare it to those of native speakers, a useful feature that few packages can boast. The Norwegian language in itself is interesting and, indeed quite rare amongst English speakers. I have been wanting to learn Norwegian for years and decided to buy this package. It is very simple to use - before you realise it you know basic words and phrases. A choice of Male and Female native speakers is available. Compared to a tape and book package it is excellent, activities are marked by the computer and you are given a score. Excellent features, easy to use, great value for money. GO FOR IT, I'm thinking of getting the intermediate version...
