I remember when these first came out. I was the one kid at school who could do it! Once it was mastered I spent years on and off just playing with it, doing patterns half completing it, basically just playing with it.
Eventually after over twenty years of play time took it's toll and it just wouldn't turn soothly anymore and one of these arrived for father's day.
It is exactly the same size as the original cubes, it has the same colours as the original cubes, it still has stickers on the sides and the stickers still slide when you turn the cube fast...It is almost exactly how I remember it but it is much harder to turn and square up than my old cube is. Now I'm not sure if this is because it is new, or whether it is genuinely harder to turn, but I don't remember it being this hard to twist when I was ten years old. My kids also enjoy playing with it, although they do "hand it back" when it needs putting back to order.
I have played with one for over twenty years, I love it. If you cannot complete it there are now whole areas of the internet dedicated to the Rubik's cube - and computers have now been used to prove that it can be completed in less than 24 twists (although I hasten to add not by me as my fingers are now stiffer than they used to be and it takes me about 2 minutes to do). Give it a go, but DON'T give up, work it out even if you have to go online...it's fun and therautic eventually.

I bought a Rubik's cube a few months ago after seeing one on a TV documentary and remembering the one I had from my childhood. Straight away I had that flush of nostalgia, although I'm convinced this cube is smaller than the original version. Or maybe I'm bigger now! It is smooth to operate and i've had no problems (like other reviewers) with the stickers peeling off. Maybe my usage isn't that intensive yet! It comes with a tiny triangular stand to place it on and it's shows it off to good effect once you've completed the cube, which i've been unable to do so far. It also comes with an explanation booklet, which although has some useful tips, isn't the clearest i've seen. Overall this is a fun and stimulating toy, that may not keep you engaged for long periods of time (depending on your patience and attention span), but will give you a fun mental workout, as well as that nostalgic hit from a classic toy.

its ok, nothing to shout about, my brother likes it, been driving my family mad cause no one can do it. So it might end up under the bed out of the way, but it is a good laugh

i can do it in 2min 10, its an amazing party trick, everyones face is just ,wow! i cheated, i went on nerdparadise.com and completed it in six easy steps and now i just need an interview with a top company lol. peace djx

I have received two of these, two years apart. The first was very stiff and creaky, and by the time it had loosened up the stickers were lifting.
The second was slick right out of the box and a joy to use. It still looks new many months later.
Either this means that quality problems have been put right, or that quality is highly variable. I am assuming for former, because for me the glass is always half full.
As for the cube itself, it is a classic and every home should have one, if only so that a dorky visitor can prove his (or occasionally her) cubing prowess.
Three stars or five stars, depending on quality.
