Great for digital camcorders January 22, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Having purchased this for my fathers birthday, he couldn't be more pleased. I'ts early days yet but it works great. We decided to go for the SLR version so that he could use it with his digital camcorder we got him for christmas, and it handles the extra weight no problem. Time will tell if holds its strength (as noted by other reviews) but for the moment this quite ingenious, compact device gets the thumbs up.
PERFECT January 7, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a must have for any photographer, with every type of camera catered for with various models. I bought the compact digital version after i needed a tripod for 'non flash photos'. It fits in many awkward places, great grip and sturdy. At first i was worried if it would skrew into my camera but it did, and its got a quick release mechanism which means you just slot it on and off. Only snag is its very tricky taking portrait pictures when the camera needs to be turned round.
I'd recommend it to anyone and its a great price!
Good idea January 4, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a good tripod. Before you buy it, however, make sure you find out how heavy the intended camera is (including lenses). This version is designed for cameras and lenses up to 800g, which is less than many modern SLRs.
OK but no good for Panasonic Lumix TZ3 December 25, 2007 10 out of 26 found this review helpful
I recently purchased a (Compact) Joby Gorilla Pod to use with my Panasonic Lumix TZ3.
I wouldn't recommend using the compact gorillapod with the TZ3, it is highly unstable and I wouldn't trust it not to topple over!
The only possible way of using the 2 together would be if it were wrapped around a railing etc, however I find this kind of useless when I primarily wanted a travel tripod to use for night shots around cities etc.
I have considered purchasing the next size up Gorillapod, but ultimately I think I will stick with a conventional tripod, that can actually do what I want it to!
If you camera is a compact (and I mean really compact) one, you may find it useful. quality is OK, but I also wonder about the joints softening in time, which would make it quite useless...
Love this thing! December 9, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this for 15 on Amazon instead of over 30 at most places but you don't want to know that do you?. You're thinking will it take the weight of my camera ?
I have a Canon 400d with a 17-85mm lens plus the battery grip. Quite a large set up by digital standards. This little beasty takes the weight with ease . I find it light enough to carry with the rest of my photographic equipment. Love gadgets you'll love this!
