It will truly surprise you out of your skin, when she gives birth to what appears a true baby but is in actual fact an alien! when the daughter of sir phillip gets out an ipod mini and sings along to j lo i nearly died! anyway, a must-see xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx hiiilo i love mr bean

5 out of 5 stars Must own!   February 16, 2005

Perfect adaptation of a must read book. Jane Austen would be proud and if you do not already own it which universe do you come from?

5 out of 5 stars simply beautiful   January 31, 2005

Beutiful. What more can I say. Indeed what more can I say in addition to what everyone else has said. This adaption is truly spectacular. I missed the airing of it the first time round in 1995 as I was probably a little young to take notice of a period drama, but like many others, discovered it when studying the book for GCSE in school. I was simply mesmerised at once, as were the rest of the class, and indeed my english teacher who really had a thing for Mr Darcy. After leaving school several years later i read an article on the adaption, and decided to watch it again for old time's sake, so went out and bought myself the videos. All I can say is that it has been hard to stop watching them since!!

I can say no more for the superb cast than what has already been said. They are all a true credit to Jane Austen, as each actor depicts their character faithfully and beautifully. Jennifer Ehle vibrantly brings to life Elizabeth through her playful yet deep and thoughtful acting. I think it was a good idea of the casters to cast a virtually unknown actress at the time as Lizzie, as it means she has actually become her, you won't be able to imagne her as anyone else, and that makes it all the more special. Her chemistry with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy is really outstanding and unbeatable. It's exciting to watch a couple truly engaging so well with eachother, as that natural chemistry between leads seems to be lacking these days. I doubt any couple could have been better suited for the roles and for eachother playing the roles. I cannot even begin to say how truly wonderful Firth's depiction of Darcy is. Rather than portraying a 2 dimensional cold, arrogant, stilted snob, Firth creates a 3 dimensional brooding, sensitive, intricate, sensual Darcy, unlike that of Olivier's in 1940, who was slightly more stiff and inflexable. Congratulations to Firth for creating such a confusing, layered, sexy and totally irresistable romantic hero that there is just not enough of anymore. He creates a man of few words, and a man who says everything with his eyes. One look in those deep expressive eyes, and I promise you, you will melt. As for the rest of the cast, there would not have been such an amazing production without them. Each actor presents their character in an original thoughtful way, and you will really find the characters leap off the pages of your book next time you read it. The scenery, houses, furnishings, costumes and music all add to the authenticity and reality of the production. Without them, the adaption would fail to hold such glory as it does now, and as it will for many years.

This is something for anyone and everyone; men (oh yes believe me they'll actually surprise themselves by liking it!) women (of course we all know why) teenagers (I was one when I first fell in love with it as were amny others) and children (what a great way to get them to read some classics). Snuggle up some saturday afternoon and enjoy 5 full hours of truly beautiful work. Congratulations to the cast and crew, you will be hard to beat!

5 out of 5 stars Pride and Prejudice   January 10, 2005

What a wonderful adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, brilliant as you would expect from the Beeb. The British Line up of actors, with no Americans trying to be English, and especially the moody Mr Darcy, played by Colin Firth, a part that seemed to be written with him in mind, he should be congratulated for his excellent performance. The sets all seem to be correct and living in Derbyshire myself, I can vouch for the scenery being right for this part of the world.

The adaptation is long, but there are no worries because the story grips you and gains your attention from the first scene, even those who dislike period plays and films cannot help but be seduced by this film, and although the language is correct for the time, it is so well acted that you soon get used to it.

This is a Sunday afternoon film, with the phone off the hook and a nice bottle of wine, sit back and be transported into another world.

5 out of 5 stars By far the best film I have watched!   January 5, 2005

I would recommend this video to anyone. The charcters are perfectly casted, especially Jennifer Ehle who fits the part of Elizabeth Bennett wonderfully with her charm and wit.

The film would not be complete without Darcy, played by Colin Firth. The muddled romance between Elizabeth and Darcy is a highlight.

Julia Sawahla as Lydia Bennett, who continuously makes a fool of herself infront of public company plays a wonderful part, to make the Bennett family at its best.

Of course the film would not be all this without the excellent costumes and hair styles, especially of the two snobbish Bingly sisters.

This review is nothing in comparison to the film itself, so I suggest you watch it to find out for yourself. You wont be disappointed!
