3 out of 5 stars Hit-and-miss, nowhere near as good as previous series.   October 27, 2008
I have mixed feelings about the 1997 Harry Enfield series, to be honest. After three great series, this came as something of a disappointment. That's not to say it was bad. It just doesn't have the edge of previous material. It certainly has some great sketches involving past characters such as Kevin fancying his teacher, the Old Gits being generally nasty, the Slobs hitting the jackpot and the Randy Old Ladies still hunting young men. Some of the new characters such as the father trying to cope with having a homosexual son, Mr Dead, Il Postilio Pat and the Amsterdam policeman are equally hilarious. A lot of the other material, however, is just dross. Bringing back the Self-Righteous Brothers was a mistake. They weren't funny the first time round. Lee and Lance are clearly past it here as well. And some new characters like the German tourist, the gay jockeys and the varied other non-descripts are a pointless waste of time. This collection is worth seeing for the better sketches, but you might want to get the collections of sketches from the earlier series first.

4 out of 5 stars VERY FUNNY!   February 19, 2003

This video is very funny indeed as it contains nearly one hundred minutes of top comedy. Among the many highlights of this video are Wayne and Waynetta winning the lottery, Lee and Lance's song, the homeophobic dad, the Scousers in Spain, Kevin going to a party and the Toddlers painting together. Nearly every perfect sketch on this video is funny! Harry Enfield uses super characters with excellent catch phrases. 'I'm not your slave?' 'Calm down, calm down' and 'You don't wanna do it like that.' The one fault with this show is you can't really watch it more than twice without becoming slightly bored. Still great while it lasts.

4 out of 5 stars HARRY FUNNY BUT NOT DIM   January 18, 2001

This Harry Enfield video is particularly funny. As with many sketch shows, not all the gags will have you rolling around but this one has some good moments and is much better than the recent sky series. The only real complaint is the running time.
