More Beauty Than Beast March 20, 2003 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Whereas some people would dismiss this sort of film as "kids stuff", whenever I watch this film I am constantly amazed with its moral undertones, amazing musical score and animation. This film is without doubt one of the greatest Disney movies made and offers enjoyment to all that view it, within the top ten movies ever made in my opinion. This D.V.D also heightens the enjoyment of this film by offering an overwhelming amount of special features, such as the fascinating 'making of...' and the wide range of games and quizzes. Don`t miss out... buy this movie
pure magic March 4, 2003 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
This is a film to appeal to children and to adults who are still young at heart. It has beautiful animation, catchy songs and a gentle love story to appeal to all. The dvd features an extended version of the film (the song 'human again' has been added ) which I was concerned may spoil what was already an excellent film. I need not have worried, the additional song fits in like so well you would think it had always been there. This is surely Disney at its best and well worth buying.
If I have to watch this one more time! February 27, 2003 14 out of 28 found this review helpful
This is a great kids film, but TOO great as we have had it on every day since we bought it! My daughter is two and a half, and every day she demands 'Beast Beast Beast'! She has not watched any other video or cartoon since we got it, so its just as well that I like to watch it too. It is a great show with memorable songs and good characters. I live Belle and the fact that she loves reading, and is brave and kind - a better role model for children than some other Disney dames.
Beauty and the Beast Special Edition February 1, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As I die hard fan of the original version, I was slightly worried that the changes to the original story would ruin,in my opinion, one of the best animated films of all time. But there was no need, the insert, "human again", fits into the film like it was always there. And in case I didn't love, there was the other two versions of the film to keep me busy. The games are good, if at times a little slow, but the other special features are brilliant.
A tale as old as time - as fresh as ever January 4, 2003 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Beauty and the Beast, at first glance, seems like a kid's fairytale writ large - boy meets girl, boy imprisons girl, girl discovers boy is a hideous enchanted beastie, boy gets girl anyway. All together - aaaah...Of course, with all successful children's films there are levels and subtexts to keep the parents enthralled as well. Beauty and the Beast excels in this area - by blurring the lines between hero and villain in both Beast and Gaston, Disney introduced a line of moral doubt whose subtlety you may not at first appreciate, especially if you're distracted by the more familiar anthropomorphic buffoonery of the talking furniture. Picking one highlight out of many on this DVD collector's edition is nigh on impossible. For me, though, the extra song included in the extended cut of the film, "Human Again", is a joy. This is mainly because it feels so natural a piece of the film that it's hard to imagine the film without it any more.
