IT'S AN AMAZING INTRODUCTION TO THE SUBJECT, IT BRIEFLY COVERS PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING. THE REASON I GAVE IT 4 AND NOT 5 STARS IS BECAUSE THE INDEX IS NOT GREAT AND COULD DO WITH SOME WORK.

This is an excellent book for those taking GCSE, 'A' Level or just generally interested in this area of History - Well laid out and easy to use.

first discovered this gem in 1991, at school, subsequently referred to it through degree and masters, and now use it for teaching. a brilliant, concise and thorough text for key information, not only in ec-soc-hist, but also modern history, economics or social policy: incredibly useful on so many levels. interesting, clearly presented and thoroughly readable.

This book has provided me with in valuable information which I have needed to continue on my college course. I am a mature student and the language used is helpful to students of all ages.
