4 out of 5 stars superb photographs, not shown to best effect.   October 30, 2000
Having bought all previous portfolios, the publication of this was keenly awaited. The photographs are, as expected, stunning, and inspiring despite wildlife not being my particular photographic interest.

Unfortunately the change of publisher (and 'designer')- for whatever reason, has seen a move towards this book as designed object, with little understanding of what the 'reader' needs to enjoy the book, or how the photographer would wish his/her images presented.

Put simply, there are far to many images printed across the spine - across two pages. This may allow a larger image - but the effect is most damaging to the image, it's composition and it's perception (especially for example, the polar bear photo repeated on the d.j.). Consequently this means that any second image is woefully undersized. Further-more the black background to night/marine photographs is a disaster. You cant easily see where the image ends, and the page begins. These images would have been stunning with a white surround. Perhaps portfolio 11 could be designed by a photographer.
