An enjoyable read but spurious conclusion September 5, 2006 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
The author gives a useful concise history of the intersections between theology and philosophy, using many beautiful phrases and metaphors. The conclusion reached is that as philosophy has no rigorous definition of rigorous and science is full of metaphor backed by the prevailing consensus of scientists it is simply another form of faith. This is backed-up by an uncritical account of Kuhn and scientific revolutions. It does not follow though that the limitations of science mean it is akin to faith. Science is used not believed and is based on analysis, evidence and reason- it demonstrably works, there is no religious equivalent to the Jumbo jet.
