5 out of 5 stars The Day of Reckoning ...   July 13, 2005
Simon, Jared and Mallory Grace race against time to rescue their mother from evil clutches of Mulgarath the Ogre, with help from the Elves and even Arthur Spiderwick as the world descends into an epic war.
This is by far the most exciting book so far in the Spiderwick series as Mallory, Jared, Simon [who must do something quite out of character in this book to save them] and Byron the Gryphon fight for their lives against goblins and Dragons.
And it's all building up to a final showdown with Mulgarath in his palace of scrap metal...
A worthy end to the saga despite being a bit of a blood-bath. By far the book's most entertaining character is the shape-shifting ogre, Mulgarath who is an old-school, mustache-twirling, James-Bond style villain.

5 out of 5 stars The Spiderwick Chronicles, book 5.   May 25, 2005
The Wrath of Mulgareth is probably the best book in the series because it has such a great twist at the end.
In the very last chapter, Jared, Mallory and Simon are perfectly happy and their mum has found out about everything that has been going on. The elves allow the children to keep the field guide, which is great!
Overall, an abosulutely BRILLIANT series!

5 out of 5 stars excellent conclusion.   January 20, 2005

In the fifth book in the Spiderwick Chronicles series, The Grace children -- Mallory and her younger twin brothers, Jared and Simon -- have to rescue their mother, who has been captured by the evil Mulgarath. With the help of elves, the sneaky hobgoblin Hogsqueal, and, of course, their Uncle Arthur's guide book to the faerie world, the three kids set out to defeat Mulgarath once and for all. Will they succeed in stopping Mulgarath and save their mother before it's too late? Readers who enjoyed the first four Spiderwick Chronicles books won't want to miss the conclusion to this entertaining and unique fantasy series. I highly recommend this entire series to all readers who enjoy an enchanting fantasy.

5 out of 5 stars The Spiderwick Chronicles Part Five!   October 18, 2004

The fifth (possibly the last) in the Spiderwick series. Mallory and her twin brothers return home to find their mother missing and the house wrecked. Their only hope is to find Mulgarath the troll king and defeat him - but this seems impossible.

Once again, this delightful little book is full fabulously detailed illustrations - and is divided up into 7 chapters (a week's worth of bedtime reading) plus an epilogue to tie up all the loose ends (including the children's father, Mr Grace, and a reunion of Arthur & Lucy Spiderwick). It's a well-paced exciting story; a return to form after the ever so slightly disappointing part four.

If you've read the others - then this is a must-read! If you haven't read the others, then I recommend starting with book one, 'The Field Guide.' The Spiderwick series is aimed at younger readers, possibly aged between 7 and 10, and chronicles the story of the Grace family and their misadventures with the Faerie inhabitants they discover in their new home.
Five Stars *****
