I cannot say how much this book means to me. It is the perfect escapism. The realm of Tortall is so vivid and real that I sometimes wish I lived there, with all the honour, knights and thieves ;0) I love the rogue and each novel in the series is great in its own right, particularly when Alanna and her true love...*that would be spoiling it!*
The book that made me love reading February 17, 2008
I first read this book when I was nine and finished it in two days. I don't know how many times I have read it now but it is a world I return to when I need to go home. I'm 23 now and still return to Tamora's head when I can.It is written for young adults but I can still relate to the charactors, and her writing style makes me feel comfortable from the first few lines. I can't wait for her next bok to come out!

I have read this book (and the rest of the series) thousands of times and I find new depths and links every time. Tamora Pierce is truly one of the greatest authors.

I first read this book in 1989 - when I was still in primary school and as the heroine Alanna grew up, I grew up with her; book 4 was finally published when I was doing my GCSE's!This is one of those books that I think all young girls should read for entwined in a fantastic adventure story are real life lessons about striving for what you want in life.
Book one starts Alanna's adventure off as she enters her training to become a knight disguised as a boy, it is full of mystery, magic, great sword fights - better than Harry Potter for girls though it follows a similar format!! A must read - I have read and re-read this series of books (Song of the Lioness, of which Alanna is book one)countless times. A definite keeper!

Book 2 = In the Hand of the Goddess
Book 3 = The Woman Who Rides Like a Man
Book 4 = Lioness Rampant.

I read this one (and of course the rest of the series and then all the other books Tamora Pierce had written)years ago and it is one of the only books I can keep readin over and over again. I just love the way Alanna batles her way through life and how "the knight in shining amor" theme is twistet.
I cannot say anything else but this: if you like knights, magic and a litle bit of love don't hesitate, BUY THIS!
