An essential for any serious birder heading for Ecuador January 4, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This might not be the size to cart around with you in a humid rainforest but nevertheless this volume is an indispensable work, covering as it does every single species ever recorded in the rich avifauna of Ecuador. Nothing short of brilliant, frankly.
Taking the book to equador August 21, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is great book with lots of detail of the 800+ birds in equador. The downside is the weight! Fortunately the book is split into a section with colour plates and brief overviews of location, habitat etc and a seperate section covering the more detailed lives of these fabulous birds. With a sharp knife and some stickyback plastic they seperate into a handy field guide and a section to leave in the hotel or at home. This is what we did... what a great book. It will really make the holiday more enjoyable.
Any birder visiting Ecuador must have this volume. January 20, 2002 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is the only field guide to the birds of Ecaudor. It is a coprehensive guide with all birds illustrated. The short notes along side the illustrations are useful, as is the fuller supporting text. Their are two problems - the first being its size. It is a very large book to take as a field guide. The second problem is that for some birds, the notes on abundance are in volume 1 and not in volume 2. As their is very little extra in volume 1 it is not necessary to purchase this as well.
