Has everything you need to know! June 5, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far the best physiology book around! Use this and guytons pocket version and you need little else! The only problem is that sometimes it has too much detail but too much is better than too little! I found this book very helpful in studying pathophysiology as well.
Don't do it! June 1, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Don't get this - get Ganong! Guyton rambles on and repeats himself a lot. The pictures in Ganong are better, and the text in Ganong is much more succint, making it a lot easier to find the information you want. But if you like huge books which look good on your bookshelf, then Guyton would be a good one for you.
Amazing and useful October 7, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is great. It has all and even more than you need for your exams. There are references at the end of each chapter so you can find more useful books about a particular subject. There are lots additional things from different subjects (biochemestry, anatomy, biology) in case you have forgotten something. The text is simple and easy to read. If you like physiology the you can read this book as a novel.
Excellent reference text... June 22, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
First impressions of this well established text were that it would be difficult to read - there's not much colour, no photos and large bodies of text. However, all the information is there and it is pretty easy to understand. It probably isn't the book I'd go to for a quick look-up but as an authoritative reference text it is excellent.
Best physiology book currently on the market November 20, 1999 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Guyton's review of Medical Physiology remains in my opinion the the best written of the all the phyiology texts. This is definitely a book to be read as the rambling prose can sometimes make it difficult to find individual facts in the text, however by this means compreshensive reading and understanding are encouraged. The detail of the text is easily enough for most medical courses, although the detail in certain sections does show bias towards Professor Guyton's personal interests, and I found the gastrointestinal section somewhat less detailed than comparable texts (e.g. Ganong), while the CV is huge detailing many physiological components of disease processes. The only possible complaint, is that the style of the book looks a little dated and the diagrams are generally inadequate and often need support from a better illustrated text.
