"There're" is perfectly grammatically correct. On the basis of this alone, I suggest you reject the entire proposition of the other reviewer (ie "good book held back by odd names and grammar errors") and give this book a try.

Despite excellent reviews, which is why I bought this book, this book was supremely disappointing. From the cheesy character names "Blue" the sailor "Squid" and the newspaper editor irritatingly reffered to as "The master", to dodgy grammer such as "there're" (?!) I found myself concentrating more on these than the story.
In theory , quite a good tale, I found that the storyline jogged along quite nicely , then suddenly took a huge leap to reveal a crux of the book - leaving the reader thinking "where did that come from?"
I haven't read anything else by this author, and going by this, I regret I won't be hurrying to either.
