A book reread over and over October 6, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I first read this book when I was ten years old, and it has never stopped entertaining me. With Spiro's language, and his daring theft of the King of Greece's goldfish, Larry's extreme hilarious selfishness, to the picnic with the 'magenpies' causing havoc, not to mention the French language tutoring, this book is studded with great stories of a budding naturist. It is surely one of my all time favourite Durrell books.

Gerald durrell (in my opinion) is the best author in the world, even though he has sadly passed away his novels still live, Hilarious my family and other animals I found very exciting, interesting and enjoying. If you like this book you will love all the other books written. From Corfu to Bourmouth is sure to make your sides split. ps. hope you enjoy the book.
dream-esque March 15, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is such simple yet wonderful book. It really does transport you into a world of dreams, hilarious oddities and unfazed youthfull dreams. Including heart-warming and trully individual characters, through the eyes of an endearing young boy, this creation of loveliness is a must for anyone who still remenices over hazy childhood summers with a rush of happiness.
Well described and incredibly funny February 9, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've just finished reading this book, and it really is one of those you don't want to end. Join Gerry Durrell as he moves with his family to Corfu and discovers the wildlife there for himself. It's full of hilarious family incidents and wonderful descriptions of animals and the friends Gerry makes on the island. Read about the rose-beetle man, a terrapin named Old Plop, trapdoor spiders and when Larry finds a scorpion family in a matchbox. This is one book you'll want to read again! I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to read about animals and a young boy who's interested in them.
Fun book for animal lovers of all ages. December 27, 2000 I read this book first as a child, when I read everything in the library slightly related to animals. Then I grew up, and I reread the book every now and then, it is so funny, and the descriptions of the animal loving young Gerald are wonderful.
