The latest offering in National Geographic's photography field guide series. I felt a little let down by this one after reading other NG field guides. It tends to emphasise bird watching over photography in parts but perhaps this is due to the background of the author. The photography is good but not as inspring as we've come to expect from NG either. Having said that, with patience the reader interested in photographing wild birds should manage to extract useful tips from this book. I patricularly enjoyed the section on setting up a rig to attract and photograph birds using garden feeders and home made backgrounds, making this accessible to those who can't travel to exotic locations yet still capture great shots. A useful index of common birds is provided along with favoured foods and recommended methods of photography. It is geared towards North American species however. Overall a good attempt but falls short of other titles in this series. There are better books out there on the subject but makes a handy addition to any kit bag.
