Superb story, beautifully written and utterly memorable October 16, 2001 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
Probably one of the best stories ever written. Plop is a baby owl who is afraid of the dark and his parents are desperate to make him accept his position in life as an owl and fly at night. He is sent out to meet a variety of characters: a boy scout, a little girl and an old lady among others, all of who provide a different view on the darkness. Nevertheless, it is only when Plop meets a night-prowling cat that he truly comes to understand his destiny. A delightful story that treats animals as animals (okay, so they talk; but the animals behave like animals) and which is told in a simple but moving way. I have always loved this book and still read it on a regular basis, over 30 years since I first met it...
*THE* childhood book September 1, 2001 For whichever child has ever been afraid of the dark. I have been talking about this book for years to my friends. Amazon is the only place I have ever found it! I know that in 20 years, my nephew will tell his friends about it - I can still remember how much it made me laugh when I was 5! Long live Plop...
Perfect story to read aloud at bedtime. November 20, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
...This one was my favourite of hers, but they are all wonderful. Short chapters which can stand on their own and a wonderful progressive story about a little owl, who meets with a series of individuals who tell him why they like the dark...
A beautifully written story with spellbinding illustrations November 9, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book has captivated children of all ages for many years. These beautiful illustrations add depth and meaning to Jill Tomlinson's story, giving the reader the chance to imagine the characters in action.
A brilliant storey that has stuck with me through childhood. February 4, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was one of the first books that i ever read when i was at primary school. Ive always wondered were i could find it to buy but i had no luck. I had an idea that if i searched amazon they may well sell it, which they do, now im so looking forward to reading it again and maybe one day i can share this lovely storey when i decide to have children and their old enough to read.
