Excellent book, well worth every minute you spend reading it January 7, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is an excellent way to spend your time. The characters in the story appear real and Ms. Blackwell writes in a way that makes you feel that you are a part of the lives of these people. Although there are several characters, you never get confused with them. The story shares with the reader the possibility of being able to do anything with the help from God. It is highly uplifting and positive and shares hope for everyone. Very few books are so interesting to read. Once you start reading the book, you won't want to stop.
Excellent historical fiction. November 12, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I expected this book to be good, after reading Lawana Blackwell's Victorian Serenade series a couple of years ago--and I was not disappointed! The book has very good themes: forgiveness, dealing with depression, trusting God in uncertain times. While it is not intended to be a romance novel, there are three romance subplots that are all very enjoyable. There are lots of interesting characters and resulting relationships, both same- and opposite-sex and some cross-generational. The prose is top-notch, some very nice turns of phrases! Most important to me as a Christian is that the Christian themes and apologetics are incorporated very gracefully and effectively. There is an incredibly moving scene when a character we've come to care about finally comes to faith in Christ.I highly recommend this book! Even better than the enjoyable books by the author's mentor, Gilbert Morris.
Written with intelligence and reaches to your heart. May 26, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very good characters and theme. Witnesses to God's care for us. Well defined picturesque descriptions of surroundings. Mrs. Blackwell shows her intelligence and creativity in her writings. I could hardly put the book down. I believe she writes as well as the late Eugenia Price.
