Good, if you would like to put the "hands on" on your car September 11, 2001 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The book is in the style of Haynes Automotive Repair Manual Series. The explanation given is clear enough for somebody who has a basic knowledge of automotive. You can start by doing yourself the most basic tasks and controls. You'll save money and feel proud of your work. Eventually you'll decide to move on to more complex tasks if you have the need and feel confident to. Knowing more about your car also helps you in dealing with car repair shops. If you know where the problem is, even if you don't find it yourself, you can give precious informations the guys from the service station and avoid to pay them for the time they get to the same conclusion of yours. Personally, I have found to keep one of these books in the car to be very useful. Once I had an electrical malfunction in my car (not the Beetle). I had to stop in a car repair shop on the highway that was not the one of the car brand. The mechanic was willing to help me but knowing nothing of the electronics of the car, there was very little he could do. With help of the electrical diagram from the manual and the hints given, we were able to identify the problem in a loose electrical connection. Five minutes to fix it and I was again on the road.
