Best Buy! December 14, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic book. I originally got it out of the library when I was thinking of buying a D-SLR, and now I have bought one this book is my number 1 choice. It is extremely simple to understand - deceptively so, because it goes into so much detail with regards not only to taking pictures, but what to do once you've done so. What Andy calls the "Digital Darkroom", saving, downloading, printing. For amateurs this book lets us into the world of pro photography, and for those of us who have previously owned film SLRs breaks us in gently to this new technology. An absolutely brilliant book, which I can't imagine being without. And the pictures are to die for.
Digital SLR masterclass -> for beginners October 31, 2004 25 out of 29 found this review helpful
A statement from the book says it all: "Pro tip: To select the fastest possible shutter speed, simply select the minimum aperture that your lens allows ...". This book is very very basic. It does not cover much useful photography information, even for the very beginner. If you are into using computers already, I doubt that you will benefit significantly from the "computer/image" part of the book. The potential buyer would be the "analog amateur photographer with little computer knowledge who would like to go digital" -> "Digital SLR Masterclass" is one of the most misleading titles that I have seen. With that said, the text is easy to read and the photographs are nice. However, I hate it when photo-books do not list all the relevant data on the shown photos such that the reader can learn from the experience. The book covers a lot of ground but only scratches the surface on all subjects. With a combination of 2-3 other titles one would end up with better and more complete information.
Just brilliant & very informative October 11, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have just bought a Canon 300D, my first digital slr, and received the book just at the right time. Andy explains the benefits and details very well and in easy words. It just took me a day to read, I couldn't put it down. If you have just converted to digital photography or just bought your first digital slr (like me), this is a book you cannot miss. A++++

This is a superb book for those who are just taking up digital photography. It answered a lot of my questions regarding white balance, bracketing etc. This author is unquestionably an expect in wildlife photography, I have never seen wildlife photographs as good as these before. However, Andy seems to have completely muddied the waters with his definitions of RAW and TIFF files. On one particular page he directly refers to a RAW file as being a TIFF, which is just not the case; they are very different files. Apart from this point this it is a very interesting read and well worth the money.

Thanks Andy, even though I have been into photography for years, I've finally grasped the delicacies of exposure bracketing. A great book for beginners and "seasoned beginners", you will find yourself learning something.
