ABSOLUTE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL FOR ECW January 10, 2002 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Coming from a time when ECW was near the pinnacle of creativeness in PPV, this is awfully dissapointing. It starts off with all the guys paying homage to Louie Spicolli. Not much of a tribute though.....The event starts badly, as Jerry Lynn takes on Danny Doring in a sub-par opener. Al Snow then takes on Tracey Smothers in an absolutely rotten match. From there, Chris Chetti makes his debut, having a nothing match with Doug Furnas. The PPV finally kicks into gear with Lance Storm vs. Chris Candido, even though it isn't great and their match at Heatwave was SOOO much better. The card steps down again, as Taz take son the WWF's steroid boy Brakkus, which ECW recieved in return for the Pitbulls. Anyway, awful, awful match, as you may expect, lasting all of two minutes. The next match is a first blood between Justin Credible & Tommy Dreamer, and it continues the crap with another appalling match. The card steps up one final time, with a psychotic, but perversely entertaining match (compared to the rest of the show)with The whole Dudley clan vs. The Sandman, Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten. Finally, the main event is RVD & Sabu vs. The Triple threat minus Candido. Really bad mismatch of styles, as RVD & Sabu try and do a spotfest, and Douglas go all technical, and Ba Bam just stands there. And, in possibly the saddest thing ever on any ECW, Douglas gets put on a table and it breaks. Bah. Not a good match. Overall, this is, one of the worst shows ECW have ever put out. If you really need something from the 98' era, buy Heatwave, or don't bother.
