A Simply Magnificent Book January 29, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was the best book I've ever read. It had an extreme amount of adventure and suspence and I just couldn't put it down.
the first of a great series July 1, 2000 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Amazon adventure is the first of a series of adventure stories featuring Hal and Roger Hunt. It effectively sets the formula that the others follow. The boys capture wild animals to supply Zoo's. Subplot of a "baddy" who attempts to foil their work (and often comes to a grisly end). This is interspersed with numerous interesting zoological anecdotes (usually supplied by Hal who must have near encyclopaedic knowledge). I read this book nearly 20 years ago along with all the others bar Volcano Adventure which was not published then and found all of them compulsive reading. Even though by today's standards taking animals from the wild is slightly un-PC the books are about very positive about the preservation of the natural environment and are pretty educational (although I am now a biologist and know some of the animal facts and stories are a little tall!). Overall I think this book and its sequels are a far superior read to most of competition and ideal for children with an interest in the natural world, and if you are going to read them start with Amazon Adventure it is one of the best, it sets the scene and you will probaly then want to read the rest. I really enjoyed reading this exciting book. February 23, 1999 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I think that this is Willards best book, its packed full of adventure and 'Hal' and 'Roger' are , I think better discribed. I have read all with the exception of 3 of his books but this (his first) is better and more exciting.
