Customer Reviews:
Great Adventure series October 6, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I started reading these books at the age of nine or ten and Underwater adventure is one of my favorites - I am now 26 and like the other reviewer, these books did inspire me to explore the natural world - I have had my own (although less exciting) volcano and underwater adventures. I climbed one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, and I have spent many hours learning about the fauna and flora of the coral reef ecosystem and the tropical environment. I recommend the entire range, even though they are a little dated; because not only does one enjoy the stories but one also learns little bits of knowledge about the natural world.
Hal and Roger are role models to all boys growing up today. June 3, 2000 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I first read all of the Willard Price novels when I was about 8. At 20 I have now resolved to re-read the entire series and this was the closest to hand when I made that descision. I read it all in one afternoon. I now curse television as I can see it has been responsible for a slow but steady crushing of my adventurous spririt since I first read these books. I shall be setting off on my own arctic adventure this summer, I hope I only to be able to somehow emulate the bravery and cunning demonstrated in these books. I appreciate they are fiction but I think these books are representative of a time gone by where boys had to prove their worthiness by physical and mental endeavor rather than worry about emotions and relationships. I shall be reading the rest of the books with much relish and will be attentive to the wealth of knowledge there to be learnt.
