Amazon.co.uk Review Age: 3-4. Every parent knows that bedtime isn't always welcome when small children are involved, and that all of a sudden the little ones in your life find all manner of things to stop them climbing the wooden hill. In Ten Minutes Till Bedtime Peggy Rathman takes a look at all the things one little boy has to get through when he only has 10 minutes to fit it all in. This sparky little book combines unusual illustrations with a quirky take on the bedtime ritual through the eyes of a toddler, counting down minute by minute and cleverly building the tension until finally our hero just has to go to bed. Ten Minutes Till Bedtime is the ideal book for parents who struggle to get their children into bed, and is superbly entertaining for toddlers who will find the dramatic edge to the story totally addictive.--Susan Harrison.

5-Star Wonder Book! September 3, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is one of our family's all-time favourites. We bought it about 18 months ago, for my son, James, who is now 6 years old. It is still a regular choice for his bed-time. He loves to follow the antics of the hamsters on their bed-time tour and it is one of the few books that always make him laugh aloud. We all think the illustrations are fabulous and wonderfully detailed. Their slightly quirky character and bright colours add greatly to their value. Our favourite parts are where the little boy reads the same story to his visitors, the pool-party in the bathroom, the 1-Minute dash to finish getting ready for bed and the part at the end, where the tired-out little boy finally shouts "BEDTIME!" in frustration, sending hamsters flying everywhere. However, we notice something new every time we read it and always find lots to amuse us (read the small-ads on the back of Dad's newspaper, look closely at who is going up the path to the neighbour's house, see what Mother Hamster is knitting at the end of the story, read the first and final pages, where the little boy's hamster posts his messages on the Web...I could go on & on!) This is definitely worth buying for just about every 3 to 7-year-old; I should think they'll still be enjoying it when they're 10 and the simplicity of the text makes it an ideal book for an older sibling to share with their little brother or sister. James likes it so much that he left it by the spare bed when his cousin (a reluctant reader, aged 11) came to stay. I found his cousin reading it and he pronounced it "Cool". Praise Indeed! This is a 5-Star wonder!
Why I didn't like this book November 22, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't like this book at all. I found the illlustrations ugly (there are so many gifted artists out there, why bother with one that has very little talent?) and the text very confusing for young readers. Do your child a favour and don't waste your money... It would be better invested elsewhere.
Great for age 4 September 5, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book some months ago for a 2 1/2 year old and a four year old. They often take it from the shelf and yell out the countdown to bedtime, with which they can identify. The better the children became at counting, the more involved they became in the book. A lot of thought and effort went into the illustrations and it shows. My children love to see that the boy in the story is reading the same book! The level of detail in the illustrations keeps them interested time and again, and last but not least keeps the adult reader interested.
19 month old loves 10 Minutes... Has to have it! June 25, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 19th month old son loves this book; he'll drag it out for us to read to him at least once a day. And at bedtime you can forget about any other books if he spies this one. It has very little text so you can change the story and comments each time which if oyu've ever read a booka hundred times is a nice option. The illustrations are detailed so you can find something new eachtime but not so cluttered that it's confusing. And if you are familiar with Goodnight Gorilla, also by Rathman, there is a scene from that book in the background of one in 10 Minutes... Bottom line, buy ths book if you have a small child. They'll love it!
Delightful children's book November 30, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Peggy Rathmann has again shown her talent in this wonderful children's book. Her drawings are imaginative and creative. Young children will enjoy the story line as well as the illustrations, older children will delight in finding the small details within the illustrations. Fans of her books: Good Night Gorilla, and Sargent Buckle and Gloria will be happy to see their characters "hidden" among the hamsters.
