 Challenging and healing October 10, 2008
People who read this book for a detailed theology of the Christian faith are misleading themselves much like those who want the Bible to be a text book of theoretical physics or similar. A work of fiction will never do this and, as this book reminds us, the Bible is in essence about a relationship between people and God. Sure there are bits that are a bit shmaltzy for us cynical Brits but it still moved me more than most books I have read.
Comforting October 10, 2008
Forgiveness and Unconditional Love are explained beautifully in this fiction.
Simply written, but don't let its simplicity fool you into thinking it lacks gravitas.
Beautiful and comforting. I enjoyed this tremendously.

Throughout this book there were lots of 'bits' that bothered me and it simply did not 'feel right'. In part this book spouted biblical untruths, philosophy and snippets of eastern religions were present. It was 'wishy washy' in parts about very important subjects like 'hell' and did not make clear at all that "the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23. I sure I sound very serious but this really is a serious subject to all of mankind (although I am sure lots will disgaree :o).
The enemy will use any tool to 'deceive the masses' in order to keep them from their 'Heavenly Father and it is crucial that when reading material of this nature that it be as 'biblically sound' as possible. I feel that the world today pays too much attention to the 'here and now' and not enough attention is paid to our 'eternal life in Christ Jesus' and potentially, this book could lead us away from that.
I really hoped to get some fullfillment from this book however, I felt it revealed a 'spirit of error' and NOT a 'Spirit of Truth'

This is an absolutely excellent book that causes the reader to question a lot of what we have believed to be true about God and His love. It answered so many questions for me and gave me permission to believe what God had already been saying but I was struggling to come to terms with. This is obviously an inspired book and I suppose you will love it or hate it. Hardly will anyone stay on the fence. It brings to light so many religious ideas that have settled into the christian faith, ideas that were not placed there by God I would venture to say. They are mostly people trying to fit God into a comfortable box and He is God and He is Truth not our ideas. Truth is a person and sooo much bigger than any one of us can be. Come to this with an open mind and really take the time to question why the story may seem difficult for you before coming to any conclusions.

Decided read the Shack after all the hype and have to say I just cannot believe quite how gullible people are, particularly in the US - as one reviewer said, this really does show the gulf between the US and Europe. This is a NOVEL, nothing more, and actually quite a condescending one - complete rubbish which I found ridiculous and laughable...
