My 4 year old boy loves the books, ie he loves the ideas, the knight and pirates so the books are a favourite. However he is not big into the stories themselves. I read so many rave reviews that my expectatione were very high. I guess we both find them not that great as read aloud books.
Magic Tree House Books October 15, 2002 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
These books are brilliant for both parents and children. The stories are captivating and full of learning (without being boring) If your child is not yet ready for reading, then these books are just the right size for bed-time stories. I read my son a chapter at a time and he gets so frustrated when I finish at the best bits, he tries to read a little himself! The stories in the series are about the different adventures that brother and sister (Jack and Annie) go on. Their adventures range from seeing Dinosaurs - discribing how they look and what they do - through to going into space. The author, Mary Pope Osborne, has cleverly mixed a lovely story with real facts. I never imagined history could be so captivating If you are thinking of buying this book, I have a warning...be prepared to answer all the questions that your excited child will ask, and get ready to buy the whole set, because you will want to know what happens!
Up-to-date, well researched and imaginative books. September 3, 2001 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
The Magic Tree House books have caught the imagination of my 9 year old girl and 7 year old boy while on holiday in America. To get them to read during the summer holidays is an onerous task but the Magic Tree House Books managed it and prised them away from computer games! The children in the stories have found a Magic Tree House full of books and whenever they wish to be in the place or time described in the book, they have magic adventures which are all based on factual information. With the up-to-date narrative style, my children could relate to the storybook children in such a way that they no sooner finished one book than they were reaching for the next! Each story whisks the reader away to yet another interesting period in the history of the world, explains fascinating geographical phenomena, or introduces them to environmental concerns and the health of the planet. With factual research material available in the same series, these first four Magic Tree House books will be the first of many once you and your children get hold of them.
