This book is not what it says it is!!! April 13, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was lucky I purchased this book for a realy cheap price! If you are a home seamster that has not drawn a basic proportional fashion figure then - Don't buy this, dont bother. This is not what it says it is. If you are seeking to learn to draw fashion, take a university course, this book will not help you until you know how to draw a fashion figure!!!! The book is very pretty, but techniques, principles, no! Mostly it is for those that can draw a fashion figure already. Once you can do that, this book will help give you ideas on how to modify your basic model. Again I must warn you that there is no Basic model here! There should have been. This book is not for the home seamster who wants to depict the ideas in their head onto paper and has never drawn before! It is geared toward people who are much more experienced with drawing and designing. This book gets only one star for wrong title. This is too expensive a book for this kind misleading title - Perhaps it should have been, "Advanced Designing Ideas for Aspiring Fashion Artists".

I didn't think this book was that great,it didn't tell you much to do...it was quite boring. The only part i found interesting in the book, was how to draw a proper(to scale model)Most of the book,i already knew,,common sense i suppose.I would not recommend buying this book at all!
Inspirational, great pratical yet exciting book :) October 18, 2006 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have really enjoyed reading and looking at this book.... The illustrations are great and in colour (unlike other fashion books I have brought!)The styles of work are very varied and give you tips for layouts and presenting your mood & design boards. I have only had it few days and it has already helped to improve my design drawings. I think this is an excellent choice for those of you (if like me) who are preparing work for portfolio for University interviews! The book is set out as a course to follow aimed at first at beginners then building in difficulty. Some of the "projects" you would have to be majorly disciplined to follow and need many hours. But they are valid projects, some very similar to those I have been doing at college on my Fashion BTEC. You can of course pick and choose what you do. It does make sense to read all of the projects as there is loads to inspire you for doing fashion illustrations, info on working drawing layouts and sugguestions of different materials to draw with. I have found I want to read it rather than feel I should ! This is suitable for a beginner or experienced designer, there are many levels to this book.
Fabulous book January 30, 2006 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
When I was putting together my portfolio for my uni interviews I was advised to make a sketchbook of fashion designs as your final pieces of work usually lose a lot of life but a sketchbook shows your creativity and conveys your interest in the subject. I had thousands of ideas for clothes but I was struggling to get my ideas on to paper mainly because I thought my drawings had to be perfect and to be honest my figure drawings aren't brilliant especially when I am only doing quick sketches. So I bought this book in the hope that it would help me out a little and it really has. Being a textiles student I already knew about some of the things in the book like mood boards and trend forecasts and so on, but this book encouraged me to be creative and develop my own style. For example I had always used colouring pencils for all of my designs because I thought it looked neat and tidy but the book teaches you that anything can be used including paint, glitter, fabric, newspaper in fact anything you want. This book has inspired me and given me so much confidence and it has helped me to make original fashion designs and to present my ideas in a creative manner. Now every time I sit down to do some fashion sketches I always have this book close by just in case I need a little inspiration or some reassurance about my ability. I am very glad I got this little gem.
