The BBC, like the PLO, never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Aunty, when are you going to bring these things out on CD ??!! The technology has only been available for a quarter of a century, after all.

5 out of 5 stars *Pure genius*   September 11, 2003

An insane and hilarious compilation of 'I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again' Classics, this work of John Cleese, Graham Garden, Jo Kendall, Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor and David Hatch is pure genius!

Within the cassettes there are renditions of 'Macbeth', 'Julius Caesar', 'Jack the Ripper', 'The Canterbury Tales - The Miller' and an addition of many original concepts. Hilarious anecdotes and quips litter the scripts - the only complaint you could possibly have would be the stitch in your side from laughing so much!!

Better than Monty Python (for those John Cleese lovers out there) this is a highly intelligent and hilarious compilation of work - I've been listening to it since I was four and I still enjoy it!!

If you enjoy laughter, buy this - buy it now!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Missing Link between Goons and Python   June 12, 2001

These recordings are the essence of wit, innuendo, surreal silliness, and bad puns. Hear how the mighty began their descent from Cambridge, ignoring all the good advice and parental wishes for their security and pension schemes, and instead made a fortune out of mere talent.

Where are they now ? Most of them hard at work in search of the quiet life that fame so often denies you. We wish them well in their efforts, so long as these recordings are still to be found.

It is still possible to listen to these tapes, and laugh out of amusement, and not embarassment.

4 out of 5 stars Funny especially when in the car with kids   May 8, 2001

My 10 year old boy rediscovered these classic audio tapes.

The old jokes come fast and furious and from time to time the sound of those jokes comes rushing, followed by childrens laughter, from the back seat of the car

They don't write them like that anymore comes to mind,,Except that they do in almost every modern sit com you watch.

5 out of 5 stars Pre-Goodies and Monty Python surreal audio humour   October 10, 2000

The "I'm sorry I'll read that again" team (headed by the ever-present Angus Prune) were not merely funny. They were also to go on, in various guises, to television careers in Monty Python's Flying Circus (John Cleese) and the Goodies (Graham Garden, Bill Oddie) and as such, for fans of either of those shows, this tape is actually a small piece of comedy history.

A mixture of (very good-natured) satire, farce, brain-extrudingly bad puns (such as in Escape from Colditz, where one of the guards, "Hans Boompsadaisy, is uncle to a girl named Ann -- Hans's niece Ann Boompsadaisy... you are right, ve Germans have no sense of humour....") and some of the silliest songs you will ever hear... no, I'm sorry, I've forgotten what I was going to say.

In addition there are regular irregulars in the cast, such as the terrifying (but adventurous) Lady Constance (instantly recognisable by her warbling mating-call).

The old ISIRTA material is definitely as important to the prehistory of Monty Python in its own way as "Do not adjust your set" is in its. Serious scholars of comedy cannot afford to be without at least one of their cassettes. This is a time capsule of sixties weirdness.

It is also so funny it will make you sneeze.
