3 out of 5 stars Penguins   May 26, 2007

There are 17 species of penguins in the world This book deals with 6(king, rockhopper, adelie, gentoo, chinstrap &magellanic. The first 5 are Antartic while the sixth is mainly South American. two antartic penguins are missing(emperor & macaroni) although the dustcover includes the macaroni.Where South Atlantic is mentioned this should be recorded asSouthern Ocean.Apart from the above the book is well presented and the pictures are spectacular if a bit repetative. The text is minimal but each picture has a few words of explanation. The authors deserve much credit forthis work. Finally why are such odd sizedbooks produced(10"by 7")

Just got my copy of Penguin Life today , though I note the price has gone down , have been a fan of Andy's pictures for a while now and this just confirms his place as one of the top wildlife photographers . A set of superb photos that are mostly also available to buy as prints from his web site if you don't mind spending a bit of money and want something different on your wall . This book is well worth the money in my opinion just to look at how cold he must have got taking these pictures in some of the coldest places on earth .
