Beautifully illustrated, weird text January 6, 2008 This book has beautiful pictures and it's very colourful. The book is nice and glossy, so it's easy to clean if it gets a bit dirty. The board is quite robust but not too thick, so it's easy for the baby to turn the pages themselves, as long as you raise it a bit so they can grip it. My 11 month old son loves this book. The only downside of it is that the text reads quite oddly, e.g. 'Yellow is a lemon', rather than 'A lemon is yellow'. It's like Yoda-speak, all backwards!
If you make up your own words it's 5 out of 5 and even though the text doesn't make sense the pictures alone are so attractive that it's worth 4 stars.
Good Introduction to Colours November 9, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As always books on Elmer the elephant are a delight to read to children. Our 19 month old little body loves the Elmer series and this one is another hit. It is a board book that is a good introduction to colours. The first page lists all the colours and then the rest of the book provides everyday examples where each colour can be found. For example green and blue? Grass and the sky - simple, but effective. Our little boy asks us to read this book often and we feel that this reinforces the colours. He may not be able to directly identify the colours at present but it steals a march for the future, by laying down a good foundation.
