`A companion is one with whom one breaks bread, and it is a great love of sharing good food with good company that inspired this book.
I have no desire to write intricate and exquisitely difficult recipes in the manner of gastro-porn. To my mind there are two types of food, restaurant food and home food.
This book is firmly rooted in the latter. The following dishes are some of my favourite things and are often seen on my table when I am joined there by friends.....
The recipes are arranged by season in each section, to make the most of local produce and to keep variety alive........'
