3 out of 5 stars Exotic alien adventures   September 20, 2004

Big Finish's 7th collection of short Doctor Who stories concentrates on the biological nature of life, with 16 stories featuring all 8 Doctors. Highlights include the 6th Doctor and Peri becoming reluctant parents in Matthew Griffith's 'The Reproductive Cycle', the 4th Doctor battling a reality-warping creature from another dimension in Mark Steven's 'The Northern Heights' and the 3rd Doctor's presence at the beginning of an interstellar war in 'Primitives'. Elsewhere the stories range from reasonable but unspectacular tales of artificial and exotic life, to pointless exercises in page wasting in the company of zombies, flying crabs and sentient smells. All in all an average collection, Life Science contains a lot of well-written stories with strong set-ups, but a few too many that fail to live up to their premises.
