Splendid reference to the silversmiths of Northern Scotland July 28, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An excellent reference to the little known silversmiths of the North of Scotland, primarily in the Georgian and early Victorian periods. Mr. Moss (author of the earlier "Provincial Silversmiths of Moray and their Marks") and his co-author have described in great detail the identities, life, work and silver marks of the many silver (and gold) workers in Inverness and other Highland centres. In addition by delving in contemporary records, guild books and the trade advertisements of the day, they have provided a valuable social document describing families, apprenticeships, marriages, business successes and sometimes failures. Highly recommended.
