Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Wrong edition shipped   October 28, 2008
I purchased this book, but I was sent the 8th edition dated September 2007. The latest version according to the Amazon site is the 8th revised edition dated 1 April 2008.

I therefore anticipate that the information contained within the book that I have recieved will be inaccurate.

I have contacted customer services to try and resolve the matter. So be aware of the issue above when you purchase the book. Make sure you get the correct one.

2 out of 5 stars Not too easy to use   October 17, 2001

Covers information about the island and attractions well, but is very frustarting to use when all you want is information on a specific place or attraction. Tends to go off on tangents at times and give you information that just isn't relevant. A good guide though if you have time to read through all the info.

4 out of 5 stars And the change to the first edition is???????   January 21, 2001

I purchased this edition having already once been to Hawaii using the first edition. It's the familiar Lonely Planet style ("know one know them all") and contains the depth of information you expect from the series. Though I do have to ask: did the amount of new information really necessitate a new edition? From what I have seen you can still get by perfectly adequately on the previous edition (and you can find it cheaper as is now "out of date"): just add a few dollars to all the prices it quotes.. But maybe I missed something.... Having said that it if you are going to the islands then be sure to take at least one of the Lonely Planet guides, or better still, take alongside the Moon "Hawaii Handbook". Moon gives you more info (it is about three times as thick) (indeed there is sometimes too much info) and it is interesting to see how the two differ in their opinions of various sights/hotels etc. The Lonely Planet guide outshines the Moon in terms of maps and especially pictures, and tends not to pull its punches, but at times you read it and are just crying out for more details.
