A recommendation November 5, 2007 This is a fantastic book but mostly aimed at those who want to learn about polar bears - if it's photographs you're after, you'd be better off trying Norbert Rosing's book, 'The World Of The Polar Bear' Of course this does also contain a plethora of information about these fascinating animals, but the quality of the photographs is infinitely superior.
(Also regarding something a previous reviewer mentioned, methane doesn't smell. A smell - usually methanethiol or ethanethiol - is sometimes added to natural gas as a safety measure, but it is artificial! )

This is a book of wonderful pictures which any polar bear fan would like. The only criticism i can say about the book is that the ink on the pages smells ubelivably like methane! Other than that its a great buy!
Excellent introduction to polar bears January 5, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is aimed at people who want to learn about polar bears but lack the scientific knowledge needed for scientific journals. It covers all aspects of polar bear life and the research of the bears. The photgraphs are also excellent and help to explain the life of the bears. After reading this you will really appreciate what makes the polar bear one of the most special mammals on the planet.
