Before visiting Coombe Martin animal park in North Devon in June 2007, I had never really been interested in wolves or had heard much about them. When Shaun Ellis introduced us to his wolf family, it was absolutely amazing. I hadn't realised how much bad press the wolf actually gets and Shaun Ellis changed all our minds as to how fantastic and intellectual these animals are - a truly wonderful experience. A great read and a must for all dog lovers and wolf fans - I can guarantee that after reading this book - the wolf will be a firm favourite of animal lovers. All credit to Shaun Ellis - and his assistant, Helen, for showing us how marvellous these animals are.

Shaun Ellis is a person who only comes along once in a lifetime...and the Earth should be grateful for his generosity, observation, insights and intelligence towards not only his relationship with the most intelligent of the Earth's mammalian canids but his abilty to understand these wonderful creatures in "vivo" - more than any other student of wolf biology, ecology and behaviour anywhere across the planet.
Shaun's innate understanding of wolves far outstrips any other researcher throughout all institutions and anyone who wishes to understand wolves, I plead should read his book and then visit and talk to him and his colleagues at Wolf Pack Managment or Baltic Wildlife Adventures....via his base in North Devon at Combe Martin....included in these should be all politicians, including our MEP's, community leaders, farmers and landusers in areas of the globe where Canis lupus still frequents....and then learn and act on his advice for there IS NONE BETTER.

Discovered the Wolves, Shaun and the book all at the same time whilst on holiday in Devon. The book is incredible. The insight into the behaviour and communication of this most beautiful of animals is superb. The book will act as a wake up call for anyone who has an interest in canids. Buy the book and read it. I could not put it down. Since reading the book, i have been back to the wolves on numerous occasions and am now actively seeking ways in which to help protect this animal. A must read.

This book is a must for anyone who is interested in the behaviour of canines. There are many references to the domestic dog's behaviour. Once you have read this book you will be in awe of Shaun Ellis and his work, have a new respect for wolves and look at your pet pooch in a totally different light!
