Excellent Wildlife book, well worth the money - RIVETTING November 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK, this book is out of date, OK well out of date, Moose talks about the D1, but forget that, the information he gives is top notch. One of the best books I have read on wildlife photography for a long time.
188 pages, the first few chapters are the usual stuff on lenses, cameras, film vs digital, metering, flash, supports, panning, filters, caring for the gear. But in a new light.
Then we get more info on light and exposure, isolating the subject, front side and back-light, overcast weather, backgrounds etc.
What many will find really useful are the chapter/s on biology reading animal sign, getting close and using lures, blinds (hides).
Then a short story on different shoots that he has been on, first birds then mammals.
Amazing, I had to get mine 2nd hand, but worth it. I found it educational and very entertaining, made me smile on more than one occasion.
I guess if I had to be hyper critical, then some of the pictures could possibly be "better", but Moose is largely using the D1, and I am comparing it to newer books with "better" cameras. I am really nit picking here though, as often he uses a picture that he himself will say this illustrates a point... I doubt many of use could match them. Even if we tried.
Moose, get another published pronto - or else we just look at your web site and I can't get my PC on my lap on the bog ;-)
