5 out of 5 stars great book!   January 5, 2008
I read this book in the greman translation. Nevertheless it is a great story and I have to agree, that I read the book in 2 days. I am surprised, that there is also a DVD :)
My sister worked for some years in Plymouth and Exeter. I will spend my hollidays there in Devon and in this region next summer. I am sure David Kennard does more for tourism marketing in this part of England than any other publicity of the "tourism board" could do!
(sorry for my english)

I recieved this book as a birthday present as I love anything to do with Border Collies and farming and wasn't dissapointed.
It's a well written book and a great insight into Davids life.
It also explains the ups and downs of farming now and how with support from his family and friends & great dogs he continues to farm,it gives you a lot of detail about each dogs personalities.
Once I started reading it was very difficult to put it down.
I've now bought his second book which is as good as this one.
So well done on a FANTASTIC book.

An absolute joy to read. Being a sheep farmer myself, I howled with laughter at Mr Kennards wry take on a sheeps' attitude to life. His attachment and partnership with his dogs is inspiring and having just started in the sheepdog world is just what I am aiming for. He tells it like it is, a hard slog in terrible weather sometimes, but the sense of achievement in a job well done and those quiet moments of reflection and contentment are worth every sleepless night over lambing.

An absolutely brilliant book which gives you a good insight into the life and times of shepherds today! Definately worth reading by anyone who has a deep interest into collies or agriculture!

A wonderful book which makes you realise how difficult life for a sheep farmer is in this modern climate and the lenghts david goes to survive. His dedication and enthusiasm for his rural life makes a great page turner.
