Africa Poorly Portrayed July 17, 2008 My interest is in the animals, and not the person showing them. Basically, the show was about a pot bellied slob and his cellulite sweety at resorts throughout Africa. Every 30 seconds or so, it would show him taking photos of something rather than showing the animals of interest. One learns nothing about the behavior patterns of the animals, but rather that the host likes his alcohol. There are so many fine documentaries available, such as Big Cat Diaries, just to name one. Forget this one!
AFRICA in all its Beauty April 16, 2008 This is Wild Africa in all its Beauty, "its the heart of the world". Fergal Keane does some smashingly good narration for this series. Dont think this serious just covers the african plains, oh no this series covers all 6 habbitas for wildlife that live on or around the coast of Africa. Jungles ,mountains, plains, coast, lakes and rivers and deserts. Each episode has a wide range of wildlife that star, from Garilas in the jungle to great white sharks in coast to lions on the savannah. All episodes are beautifly filmed and detailed, and as a special feature David Attenborough narrated: wildlife on one THE SUPER HERD. A half an hour special on the Wildebeest Migration which rounds of the dvd briliantly. Lovely front cover of a cape Buffalo which are amazing creatures.
Top notch February 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Vivid and beautifully shot collage of African wildlife. Yes we have all seen films of lions on the Serengeti and they are portrayed here and brilliantly well, but there are also gems like Gelada baboons in the mountains of Ethiopia.
A fantastic visual journey through Africa's wildlife. Immerse yourself before it all disappears.
Utterly breathtaking February 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this DVD set for anyone who loves nature documentaries or is interested in African wildlife. The images are just spectactular. I found each programme breathtaking, with moments of humour and sadness. The only reasons for a missing star are that the music score is a little James Bond-like at times (although I still enjoyed it) and there is a missing "making of" which I would have loved to have seen.
Brilliant November 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Brilliant filming, and a sharp picture even though its not HD obviously. There is plenty too watch at this price, it really is a bargain too good to miss and is a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable watch. As another reviewer said and I agree the music score can be a bit intrusive at times: if only it had been slightly quieter it would have been perfect and quite possibly the music wasn't always entirely appropriate at times. Nonetheless well worth the watch.
