Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This unique educational tool introduces learners to the countries of the world and the states of the United States. Through active participation, coloring the maps, users gain a broad understanding of the material—and retain that understanding. Each section begins with a plate containing a political map, a physical map, and regional maps. World Thematic Maps consist of eleven global maps covering climate, rainfall, temperatures, prevailing winds, ocean currents, vegetation, land use, population, racial distribution, languages, and religions—presenting a global view of human activity. Flags and Review of Nations groups flags of the world according to continents, with the illustration of the flag placed close to the country of origin. For children of all ages—and their parents—who could benefit from a colorful “crash course”—or “refresher”—in geography, and an enjoyable and informative guide to a greater understanding of the world around them.

1 out of 5 stars WRONG INFORMATION RIGHT ON THE FRONT COVER   September 30, 2008

Map of India is WRONG!!!! Kashmir region is "WRONGFULLY" shown as part of Pakistan. WHY????? It is a PART OF INDIA. Just because Pakistan has invaded that part of India doesn't mean it belongs to them.

4 out of 5 stars A really fantastic resource!   September 12, 2008
I got this to supplement our homeschooling geography and history studies. As with the wonderful Anatomy Coloring Book, everything is laid out and labeled beautifully. I also appreciated the guide at the beginning of the book that helps the user get the most out of the book.

Countries are organized well, and the inclusion of maps of weather patterns, ocean currents, racial and religious distribution, flags, and so much more means that we will make heavy use of this book for years to come.

My only two quibbles are that the paper in this, the 3rd edition, could still be improved (I would gladly pony up a couple of dollars more for sturdy, thick pages), and that I wish it was available on CD-ROM. If I could print my own pages, I could bypass the book's quality issue and could also use it with more than one child. Otherwise, this is a wonderful resource and I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars Maps: Conceptual and Current   May 9, 2008
You often want a current map that you can easily reproduce, draw upon, color, scan or modify. The news talks about unfamiliar countries every day and you vaguely recall where this or that is. This Atlas is similar to the biology coloring books and is extremely handy for use in the office, schools or refrigerator. Geographers like maps. Where people may communicate verbally or in text, geographers often feel more comfortable once an area has been identified graphically. From a printed map we can internalize the information and carry a mental map with us, and always be able to come back to the printed map. "Just show me the map and I will know what you are talking about" is a common phrase and is exactly why television news media make use of GoogleEarth photomaps every day. We are visually creatures who just want a simple representation of what we are referring to. This is a valuable resource for K-18 schools, business, churches and reference. I use mine almost every week.

1 out of 5 stars Wrong information in this book   November 16, 2007

I am about to contact this company about this book.

What is the point of having an Atlas with incorrect information in it.

They have Cyprus as being in Asia....Did someone move it without telling us?

I have been to Cyprus 3 times and I can assure you that it is in Europe.
It makes me wonder how many other mistakes are in this book.

5 out of 5 stars Very Thorough Geography   October 1, 2007
We use this book for our homeschooling and find it very thorough. It discusses geography in detail and illustrates geographical features very nicely.
