Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Chemistry: The Central Science is the most trusted book on the market--its scientific accuracy, clarity, innovative pedagogy, functional problem-solving and visuals set this book apart. Brown, LeMay, and Bursten teach students the concepts and skills they need without overcomplicating the subject. A comprehensive media package that works in tandem with the text helps students practice and learn while providing instructors the tools they need to succeed.

4 out of 5 stars 9th Edition was great, so I am sure 11th is as well   August 24, 2008

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RZEZ8WGDI9XBD One will have to do a lot of reading but the book does a
good job explaining concepts. The CD that
comes with the book (7th ed) is awesome for testing
your knowledge. If I may suggest something that
has helped my studies greatly, a little book called
Don't Like to Read, Then Don't, Listen!: How to
Turn Any Type of Text Into Audio Files That Can
Be Read to You!. I know that many students out
there are like me and would rather listen to
material than have to read it themselves. I use
programs like the one that is reading this review
to have my texts read to me. This is a god send
for me. One can get this title on amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for the brains or chem class   August 20, 2008

I rarely write reviews but couldn't miss the chance to champion this product. Over a year ago a natural health practitioner had told me to try a neti pot for my terrible allergies and chronic sinus problems, but I thought it was just one of those New Age fads or something. In the last few years my allergies have gotten so bad that I can only breathe through my mouth most of the time.

What does that have to do with this book? NOTHING!! Except it explains why I began to read it (an undergraduate text after all - despite having graduated from Duke with my Ph.D in Organic Chemistry in 1974).

You see, deep mental concentration will generate a headache due to sinusal constriction but shallow mental concentration (such as in reviewing a subject of which you are already a master) will help aereate the sinalstic passageways and reduce thresholdolic pain genaration.

Whether or not you are a graduate level Buy and read this book!! No matter what, it will feed your head sinus' with oxygen as the Doremouse said.

addendum: Morrison & Boyd's "Organic Chemistry" (3rd Ed.) would be better but it is hard to find . . . the vampire reference (chirality) still crack's me up!!
