Essential for all neurologists February 8, 2007 Like the previous editions, this is a very practical book, with treatment recommendations and diagnostic workup protocols unabashedly based on the personal practices of the contributing authors (when universally accepted practices don't exist for the disease in question). I have a copy handy in my clinic office and refer to it not infrequently. It is very worthwhile to read through; the chapters on individual diseases are excellent as succinct reviews, though references are kept to a bare minimum. Having been at Hopkins as a full-time clinical associate myself this past year, I know all the editors personally (as well as the chapter contributors they recruited from JH, though there are also many top contributors from other institutions) and can attest they are incredibly sharp clinician-researchers with whom it has been a real pleasure to work and interact with. Neurology residents and all practicing neurologists will find essential information here in an easily digestible format, and although not encyclopedic, the book does cover the major adult neurological diseases, with a smattering of peds neuro as well.
current therapy in neurologic disease March 16, 2006 The book is true to the previous editions. The format is similar. If you liked the earlier editions you will like this one. If you are not familiar with the series it provides concise summaries of the most common conditions in neurology and appropriate treatment strategies. The included CD ROM is the previous edition of the book verbatim. Since the book complements but does not replace the earlier volumes, this is handy. However, it was a little disappointing. I thought it might give additional supplementary information.
What are the chances...? October 1, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
How many times have you been asked, "What are the chances...?" Or how about, "What percentage of...?" Or, "Is this really indicated?" If you want to know the most common predictive outcomes, current therapies, and management algorithms, then this book will be a help to you. It is very easy to read and includes many algorithm flowcharts. It not only aids management, but also can help with prediciting prognosis outcome (although perhaps to a lesser degree). Not many references, though.
