4 out of 5 stars Relaxing Compilation of Olson's best   September 8, 1999

Sigurd F. Olson's Wildernsss Day's provides a relaxing mental esacape from the chaos of a hectic workday. His astute perceptions of the most minute details of the wilderness bring it to life and refresh one's soal almost as much as taking a wilderness trip one's self.

This book is one of only two of Olson's nine books to include colour photography; the other being The Hidden Forest (also out of print). These two books are both compilations' of essay's based on Olson's personal experiances, and are arranged in seasonal order. Olson's primary focus is on canoeing, and there is one essay in particular that I've enjoyed out of Wilderness Days. It's called Young Ottertail, and it describes the mysterious appearences of a phantom canoe moving amoung the rice paddies on remote wilderness Lakes in Northern Minnesota. This canoe is known to appear and disapppear, as well as drift around wit no visable occupants, and may well be related to the ghost of a deceased native American.

I only regret that this book is out of print, and a copy is very difficult to obtain. I live in PA, and know of only two library's that carry this title, and are willing to lone it to me.
