Product Description

The Second Edition of Nutrition: An Applied Approach, presents introductory nutrition information to non-majors in an applied format that discourages memorization and promotes long-term understanding of the material. The authors capitalize on students’ natural interest in nutrition by demonstrating how it relates to their health and their everyday lives, and by addressing- and debunking- commonly held misconceptions students have. The applied nature of the book is also reflected in the functional organization of the micronutrient chapters.

2 out of 5 stars caution   September 12, 2008

I ordered priority shipping, it still took me two solid weeks to receive my book. Seller had poor communication with me. Also, book does not come with access code so I had to pay an extra $57 for that. So in the end I saved no money and wasted two weeks.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good   March 24, 2007

This book is a fairly good introduction to the far-reaching study of nutrition. However there were a few very old-fashioned comments made about vegetarianism and veganism. The attitude towards these diets in light of all the emerging research that vegetarianism is one of the most healthful diets for the human body is rather archaic. The authors comment that one can survive on a vegetarian diet, but that a lot of caution needs to go into it when it is really very simple. They also argue that the vegan diet is deficient in many nutrients that are actually very easy to get. They also claim that the macrobiotic diet can lead to death and implied this potentially good diet should be avoided.

4 out of 5 stars Nutrition, It's good for you!   December 23, 2006

This was a required text for my college nutrtion course. It was very useful and helpful for me when I wanted to learn how to combine foods for the most nutrient rich diet for my family. I have a young child and wanted to learn the best foods to optimize his health. There was a chapter specific to his age group, as well as chapters on nutrient needs for the pregnant and lacting mother. I was fascinated by the wealth of information this text provides. The authors need to review some of their end of chapter tests and be certain that they have answered correctly.

3 out of 5 stars Good book...bad timing   September 26, 2005

This book is a good product to learn the basics about nutrition. The supplier on the other hand took forever to get the book to me...had I known that there was going to be a delay I would have not ordered the book from them...
