4 out of 5 stars A must have for Elementary School Teachers!   December 4, 2000
Discovering Dinosaurs is a good book for students in the early elementary level. As a future teacher, I'd recomend for all elementary teachers to purchase this book for their students to enjoy because it's easy to read, the context is familar to the students, the text is well written, and the facts are very interesting to know. The information in the text is accurate and presented well. The relationship between the text and the illustrations are appropriate and fun to look at. There are big and little books which are great for read alouds. There's also an activity at the end of the book which is very helpful to use during a lesson. There are a number of activities that can be done using this book. You can activate prior knowledge just by having the students look at the beautiful cover. You can use the K-W-L-Plus strategy before and after reading the book; students could state what they already Know about dinosaurs, then what they Want to know, and finally, what they Learned. They can also compare and contrast the different types of dinosaurs in the book. I enjoyed this book very much and feel that it's very educational aswell as fun to read. I read this book to a 3rd grade class and the students loved it. They were eager to learn about the dinosaurs and tell which one is their favorite.
