Product Description All modern English New Testament translations are based on virtually the same critical text that was used in the 1881 edition of The New Testament in the Original Greek. In their monumental critical edition, Cambridge professors Westcott and Hort sought to present the oldest and purest text that could be attained through rigorous examination of the manuscript evidence. They refined the methods of the emerging science of textual criticism, inaugurating a new era of biblical textual study. Their classification system and evaluation of most of the texts and text families has retained the approval of scholars worldwide. The foundation of the Nestle-Aland / United Bible Society editions, Westcott & Hort represents a landmark achievement in the ongoing quest for the Greek texts closest to those penned by the New Testament writers. Students of textual scholarship and those who do serious critical work will appreciate this attractive and affordable edition. FEATURES Complete New Testament in Greek Basic Greek dictionary Colorful Bible maps Critical apparatus compares the Westcott/Hort text with significant differences in the current Nestle/Aland and Majority texts User-friendly English section headings enable easy navigation Old Testament citations referenced and set off in boldface type Durably bound in a flexible, stain-resistant cover "The most noteworthy critical edition of the Greek Testament ever produced by British scholarship." Bruce M. Metzger, Professor of New Testament Language and Literature Emeritus, Princeton Theological Seminary

user-friendly and good quality March 29, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recommend this book to students and teachers of Classical and Biblical Greek. This edition of the Greek New Testament has a great hardback cover and binding. And, more importantly, the contents of the book is worth the purchase. I was told that the editors consulted Codex Vaticanus often for this book.
All-in-one resource February 20, 2008 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This is a great Greek New Testament at a great price. Not only does this volume contain Westcott and Hort's groundbreaking Alexandrian text, the page-by-page comparison apparatus shows all differences between this Greek text, the Nestle-Aland text, and the Robinson-Pierpont Byzantine text. So you're really getting three Greek texts in one. Bound into the back of this Greek NT is one of the most beloved small Greek lexicons of the modern era--Alexander Souter's Pocket Lexicon to the NT. Souter's definitions are clear, insightful, and extensive for a small resource. And this Souter has been upgraded with extra features not found in the original dictionary. The volume contains an excellent foreword by Eldon Jay Epp explaining the history of the Westcott-Hort text, and Westcott & Hort's own summary of their principles by which they arrived at the NT text they published. The binding is durable and high-quality.
