Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The 5th edition of this now classic text draws on the strength of previous editions and now includes reference to the latest surgical techniques available in Europe, Australia and the USA. Emphasis remains on the continually expanding use of fixation techniques although conservative management remains an integral part of the text. The artwork programme - which so characterises the appeal and success of previous editions - has been fully updated although its clarity remains as strong as ever and the logical sequence of illustrations with their succinct captions affords a rewarding and effective way to learn.

  • New edition of this popular and highly respected book.

  • Practical, step-by-step guide to fracture assessment and management.

  • Contains discussion of traditional conservative techniques for managing fractures.

  • Combines clear line diagrams, drawn by the author, with lucid, concise text in logical sequence.

  • Expanded coverage of deep venous thrombosis.

  • Includes new devices and techniques, for example locked plate systems, and the use of vacuum dressings in soft tissue management.

  • New sections on 'damage control' orthopaedics, minimally invasive surgical techniques, MRSA, HIV and AIDS, and bone loss.

  • New clinical imaging.

fast shipping, reasonable price, product shipped as described. However, still waiting for refund of the same item ordered double by one click mistake.

4 out of 5 stars Good orthopaedic review   June 4, 2006
A great book for young residents. Very good for getting your basic orthopaedic knowlegde. The book is based upon easy and comprehensive drawings. The drawings make it very easy to read and gives a quick understandment of general treatment guidelines.

The books downsides are some of old remnants in the femur-fracture-treatments and that it's not as indepth as one needs at a later stage. Many of the internal fixation techniques described can be a little too indepth without any real theoretical knowledge. At our hospital we usually use different procedures from the ones described in the book making the descriptions a little useless since McRae doesn't pinpoint which principles are important in each procedure and how to avoid common errors.

5 out of 5 stars Clear, comprehensive guide for Emergency doctors   July 29, 1999

This excellent textbook systematically deals with the mechanisms of injury, symptoms, signs, treatment and complications of all common Orthopaedic injuries. In addition to X-rays,the author has also illustrated his book with superb line drawings. It has saved me many needless calls to Orthopaedic Registrars - I thoroughly recommend it.
