Awesome Book September 24, 2008 Reviewed by Sophia McElroy (age 5.5) for Reader Views (9/08)
"Bread and Jam for Frances" by Russell Hoban is an awesome book! It made me feel "laughy" all over. The songs were funny and I liked to sing them. It has a little sad part when Frances doesn't want to eat jam anymore. I like peanut butter and jelly, but not all the time. I like the pictures, they are funny!
Cute testament to picky eaters September 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Such a cute book! I was so happy to get my hands on a copy, because you just don't see much writing like this anymore. The story is cute, the writing style is wonderful with plenty of sing-song, and it has a cute message about learning to try different kinds of food.
Shades of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle! September 12, 2008 Frances is a picky eater. She likes bread and jam because it's consistent.
Her parents are understandably upset by this, but they deal with it in the most practical way - they give her exactly enough bread and jam to fill her up for life.
The story is resolved very quickly, after only a day, but satisfyingly. "How do you know what I'll like if you don't even let me try it?" indeed.
great children's story May 2, 2008 I remember my mother reading Frances books to me when I was little, and I couldn't wait to read them to my daughter. The Frances books are wonderful children's stories.
Great book April 15, 2008 The book is great, and my daughter had to "read" it as soon as it was opened.
