4 out of 5 stars Fun story but sometimes hard to read out loud   March 30, 2007

My daughter loves the books and wants me to read it over and over again. She has been taking ballet classes and can relate to the story well.
However, I found the book is kind of hard to read out loud. Ever so often it seems "wordy" and the descriptions are drawn out. I started to make up my own words and skipping some of the sections to make the story more dynamic and give it an easier flow.

3 out of 5 stars really cute but be aware of a witch and a kissing prince, all that in a little girls book.Hm   November 11, 2005

I bought this for my 2 year old one since she is now thinking of herself as a ballerina.
The reviews were helpful and it is a really darling little book.
But perhaps more for someone 3 and up. I was looking for a little book with some pictures and short story of a ballerina.
And though I got it with this book, it is written for an older child. Basically as a 2 year old one my daughter doesn't care if this girl has to practise and how she feels about it. She doesn't care about positions, though I explain to her that this is part of ballet. And in this case the story of the book, BUT nicely done and cute, for someone older.
She gets intersted in the end, when the little girl dresses up and gets to dance on stage.
The book is really cute and I recommend it. Perhaps to someone that has taken a few classes of ballet or is about to and understands the concept more. The author has done a fine job to put the do's and don't's of ballet in this book.
HOWEVER what I was not prepared for was the little girls dream.I mean, she dreams to be on stage dancing. It involves a wicked witch ( yes she looks green and mean ) and also a prince that in the end KISSES the girl. Hello, why does that have to be in the book for a little girl?
I dislike that and am skipping this part totally but of course my little daughter has found the page with the witch in it and now is asking me tons of questions.
That is the reason I gave the low rating. It is really cute and so I couldn't give it a lower rating.
Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars A great read... my kids - and I ;-) - love to read it over and over again!!   August 28, 2005

My kids - 3 and 5 yrs old - are about to start a ballet class. This book is very informative and interesting. I wish there were many such books in the market.

A DVD based on the story in this book would be great.

If you want your kid(s) to love ballet, try reading with him/her this book; more likely than not, your next step would be to look for a ballet class!
