Through the eyes of the Gods February 22, 2008 it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. If you love Africa, you will love this book. The photos are taken from a helicopter, as if the Gods were looking down on Africa. Awesome and amazing are two words that can't even do it justice.
Simply Amazing January 28, 2008 After returning from a 4-week safari in Eastern Africa, this book was able to provide us with pictures that were certainly unlike anything that we had taken.
Unbelievable photography December 18, 2007 This book is breath taking. The photography is so beautiful you think it can't really be our planet. It portrays Africa from a different perspective showing the vastnest and complexities of the region. The descriptions of the photographs are well written. I enjoyed the poetry and prose added in the appropriate places in the book.
Could be so much better... January 23, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was disappointed with the book. Although the book is well done, good quality and big pictures, the photos were just "nice". I expected more. There were a few beautiful images, but none "jaw dropping", and in general, I think they had no poetry, no soul. To me it seemed like an average person photographing from a helicopter (= scared animals), not a true artist capturing the magic of Africa. I was even bored half way through. I recommend checking it out at your local bookstore before ordering it through Amazon, to make sure you're getting what you expect. Nick Brandt's book, despite very different in style, causes much more emotion.
Somewhat Disappointing November 13, 2006 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having spent time in Africa, I was expecting really spectacular photos, given the promos I had seen and read. My anticipation wasn't rewarded, however. Unique vantagepoints, but compositions could be better, and there is no text to help compensate.
